Yipee!!..i finally finished “editing” my Bible! This time it has a more satisfying design than the first three designs I tried before.^_^ I’m so haaaaaapppyyy!!
Anywhooo, ^_^ to give a little background about my Bible, this li'l’ Bible was actually just a worn-out second hand Bible that I found in church a few years back, but since no one has claimed it after all these years, I decided to ask for it and do a little tweaking (Since it was soo cute and smaallll)..^_^ Soooo, I asked for it then i brought it to a shop to have it book bound, but honestly i didn’t really like how they book bound it ‘cause the lettering and the color of the cover was so not my type. This is when it all started. When i got home, i rushed to my room and began taking out my art materials and got straight to work. Sadly, my first two designs didn’t really satisfy me. So, i decided to redo it (and i mean tear it up and cover it up all over again), then i finally came up with this design! Here are some pics:
I found this design so cute ‘cause it has a lock and key and it looks like a diary-slash-magic book!
So here’s how i made it. First of all, I used blue felt paper to cover up the whole book so it would have a nice feel to it. Second, i cut out some cardboard pieces to make the “wooden corners”, the “lock”, and those long strips near the spine. After that, I just used double-sided tape to stick the cardboard pieces in place. Next is the most interesting and undoubtedly the most FRUSTRATING of all. Thanks to the wonderful artistic wisdom of Mr. Neil Buchanan (from ART ATTACK!!), i was able to give a good texture to the corners and others through just the simple method of mixing Elmer’s glue with water and tissue. Yup! just tissue and you get a great texture and “rock-hard” durability. Then when the tissue-glue mix was all dried up, i brushed on another layer of glue so that it’ll be alot harder and stronger. Next up, i fixed up the sort of “lock thingy” with a golden string and i tied up a locket and a key that says “Jesus” to give it sort of a i dunno, a “dramatic” add on?? Anyway, basta it made it look really cute! Then i used a component from an old necklace that’s used for the thing that holds the other string together (you get what i mean!).
The last part, but no doubt my favorite part, the butterfly in the middle! i really have this thing for butterflies, almost all of the notebooks, things, and even my name (when I get a new book and stuff and i need to label it, i write my name in cursive and add a butterfly at the end) needs to have a butterfly! My friends all know that it’s mine when they see a butterfly! So how did i make the butterfly? Simple! i just followed a picture of a butterfly through pencil first, then polished it with a tech pen with black ink, and finally i filled in all the spaces with paint, but i didn’t use the “brush part” of the brush, but i used the other end which was alot thinner ‘cause it broke into half (you know the kind when the end becomes sort of like a “wedge” which makes the end a lot thinner and smaller, is wedge the right term?). Then, i just did a little polishing and corrections here and there then TADDDAAAA!! it’s FINISHED!!., YIPPEEE!!
Finishing something like this is so satisfying and I’m so thankful that God gave me this talent. It’s so great to think that The Great Artist gave you a little something to work on and enjoy.
Praise God for this gift!!
