The Rebuke of a King 10:14 PM

For those who read the Psalms regularly, do you notice how the authors would always describe the splendor and greatness of the Lord? In my devotional time, God revealed to me something that i just couldn’t get by simply reading the Psalm. Man, if just read the Psalm without meditating on it, i would have gotten nothing out of it. So last night I took time to read and meditate on Psalm 76 and some verses made me think. in verses 4-9 it says:
Psa 76:4-9  “You are resplendent with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game.Valiant men lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands. At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still. You alone are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry? From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet--when you, O God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land. Selah
at a glance, you can notice that this chapter is focused mainly on how God is feared throughout the land when He is angry. It says here that when God rebukes, all things—people and chariots—lie still in fear.

Now, if i can relate this to normal life, the first thing that comes to my mind is (well you can’t blame me for fist and foremost, i am a daughter ^_^) a parent correcting or getting mad at his or her child. Normally, when a parent is greatly “feared” or respected by his child, the child is usually speechless when the parent is angry and decides not to do anything stupid or disrespectful to further provoke the angry parent. Respect and fear. This illustration also depicts the parent showing his authority and the child’s response to this authority. If the child recognizes the parent’s authority, this recognition will move the child to respect and accept correction when disciplined by the parent.

The Lord can be related to the illustration i have provided above, except He is in a higher position than our human parents. The Lord is not an ordinary parent, but the GREAT GOD OF THE UNIVERSE. I heard from one of my friends that i suppose is the discovery of a new galaxy that is A WHOLE LOT BIGGER  than our milky way!!..can you believe that??..we can’t even travel to Pluto and we have another discovered galaxy out there that’s millions (i think) times bigger than ours?? and not only that, but there’s so much of the universe that is unknown to us, but the Bible says that God measures the whole universe at the span of his hand. can you believe that?? this is how great my God is! This Great God deserves nothing less than our respect and worship! But sadly, we tiny little people in the world are too focused on ourselves to even respect God. imagine a tiny ant talking back to a human being, telling the human being what to do, demanding the human to do what he wants and blaming the human when the human doesn’t do anything! crazy isn’t it??? well, NEWSFLASH!! That’s exactly how we respond to and treat God. It is definitely wrong. God is to be viewed for who He really is, and that’s the GREAT GOD OF THE UNIVERSE!

Malachi 1:6 “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?" says the LORD Almighty.”

Ok! So back to what i was studying in my devotions. The Psalm shows here that God cannot be denied when He is angry. Personally, i have experienced this and when God rebukes and corrects, it’s no laughing matter. He will bring you to your knees and silence you for sinning and not respecting His name! There were instances and circumstances that he allowed to happen to discipline me after i have disobeyed Him. For instance,  i actually experienced a grade below 80, and to me, it was TORTURE!! I’ve never had a grade below 80 in my life (and grades mean serious business to me)!! I cried my heart out and i knew right away that God was disciplining and rebuking me for the wrong i had done him. The verse that says that everything will lay still and says that “who can stand before you when you are angry”, yup, that’s happened to me! God’s rebuke and discipline is no laughing matter, and it’s true that you cannot stand before him because you’d be kneeling and hiding in shame.  His rebuke will cause you to fear and respect the Great God that you have sinned against. He’ll show you who’s BOSS!

Thanks be to God for His grace through Jesus Christ that He rebukes me when i do wrong! that he doesn’t let me go my own way, but he puts me in the right path ‘cause i’m His child. Only through the blood of the Lamb. Not through anything else!

In the last part of the Psalm it says, “Surely your wrath against man brings you praise…” What does this mean? Personally, based on my understanding, it means that when God shows His anger through rebuke, through discipline, or through other stuff, it causes men to see the authority of the Creator of the Universe and also causes them to fear and respect Him for Who He is—A Great King who MUST be respected. Mark my words, no one will be able to stand before Him when He comes in His glory.

HE ALONE IS WORTHY! GLORY TO THE LORD MOST HIGH!
